There are certain windows of opportunity in
everyone's life, and Anne Sullivan Kindergarten offers a window into
life-long learning for your child. In a caring and supportive environment,
Anne Sullivan School s experienced teachers will nurture your child s
natural curiosity and love of exploration and discovery as well as an
attitude of gratitude for all the gifts we have around us. Children are in
the care of dedicated teachers at all times, including the hours outside
the formal program. At Anne Sullivan School, every moment is a teaching
moment.
Children are prepared academically, emotionally, socially and
physically for formal schooling. The kindergarten follows a curriculum
that meets or exceeds the required state standards, encompassing language,
reading, math, science, Spanish, music, art and physical education. The
kindergarten at our school is structured to provide children with the
basic foundations for integral growth in future academic endeavors.
The small classes and teaching methods used provide an atmosphere which
allows children to advance beyond the program as far as they are
interested and able with opportunities for every child to pursue his or
her special talents and demonstrate areas of strength. There is a ratio of
one teacher for eight children during the morning and one teacher for
twelve children in the afternoon. Since the class is small, the program is
individualized; each child s needs are evaluated and met through a
schedule of daily work and activities. The emphasis is on learning by
doing, employing all the senses and intelligences in a variety of
stimulating, joyful and meaningful experiences.
Having a full day allows time for all children to benefit from a varied
academic program as well as time for making friends, learning to work as a
teem, and expanding learning experiences to include the community and the
environment. The children participate in academic activities from 8:30
a.m-12:00 noon, after which they have a nutritious lunch prepared from
scratch on site. In the afternoon they participate in a program that
addresses their interests and develops the whole child. At 3:00 pm they
have snack and those who choose to stay, engage in open-ended and playful
activities. Children can remain until 5:30 pm without extra cost in their
weekly tuition. Our kindergarten program is also designed to meet the
needs of working parents, who need to have their children to attend school
on a full-time basis.
The Kindergarten combines formal instruction with discovery learning
intermixed with periods of child-initiated activities. In this environment
the children have the opportunity to take initiative, make choices, form
close, lasting friendships with their peers and work with social problem
solving and sharing, tools of relationships that are useful for a
lifetime.
Situated on thirty landscaped acres, Anne Sullivan Kindergarten offers
its students opportunities to interact with nature in her intricate and
changing ways. To promote understanding of the earth and the environment
the program offers activities like planting, composting, worm farming and
caring for the garden. In addition, the daily schedule provides green time
for the children to enjoy time outside in the fresh air and explore the
delights of the natural environment.
